Tibetan Singing Bowls Meditation with Mona Choi

What do “Tibetan singing bowls” do?

Tibetan singing bowls can generate a type of energy vibration to help you to reduce stress, heal pain or depression and create a deep sense of peace, well being and better health. The sound frequencies created by Tibetan singing bowls travel through your body. As the sound of the Tibetan singing bowls synchronizes with brain waves, it creates an impact on your sympathetic nervous system.

The pulsating tone engages the relaxation reflex, slows down the respiratory, brain and heart rate and creates a deep sense of well being.  The sound frequencies of the Tibetan singing bowls can engage you to activate the Theta brainwave.  Theta brainwave is a state where you are at the deep relaxation, deep meditation and light sleep. It is said that a sense of deep spiritual connection and unity with the universe can be experienced at Theta.

It is scientifically proven that your mind’s most deep-seated programs are at Theta brainwave and there you experience vivid visualization, great inspiration, profound creativity and exceptional insight. Once you are in that state, the healing of the body, mind and spirit takes place.  As a result, it restores and optimises the flow of energy in all parts of the body.  The body will then be balanced in order to allow the healing (including self-healing) to be activated.

What is the story behind Mona’s Tibetan singing bowls?

Mona Choi (a certified Ancient Massage therapist and instructor) will bring her antique Tibetan Singing Bowls to the session.  These singing bowls were ‘hunted’ down by a guy who is specialized in searching and hunting these bowls in various parts of Tibet.  Some were hidden deeply and safely underground until recovered by him.  She will simply play the bowls in a particular sequence that will allow you to gently ease into the Theta state.

What do you get out of a session?

The session is conducted in a group. Mona will guide you to lay down on the yoga mat and position between two singing bowls.  You just need to focus on your breathing and relaxing your body and mind – and let the singing bowls take care of the rest.

After the session, you might experience improved memory, clarity, vitality and the ability to take action. It is often told by people who have undergone the Tibetan singing bowls Meditation that you can gain clarity on an issue, raise self-awareness and be more mindful of your surroundings. It is also normal if you don’t respond to it straightaway. If you wish, you can share your experience with the group over some premium organic teas from Les Jardins de Gaia.

More about our Practitioner:

Mona Choi is a certified Ancient Massage therapist and instructor.  She first discovered her curiosity for massage therapy in Phuket, Thailand about 20 years ago.  As she started to explore further about these bodywork therapies, it uncovers her true passion as a healer.

In her search for the essence of how massage works with the body, mind and spirit, she came to the Ancient Massage Foundation (“AMF”) and met the founder, Rahul Bharti, who is also her teacher.  She was particularly drawn by the commitment of Rahul and AMF to spread the Ancient Massage tradition and values through teaching and community service.

In this journey, Rahul also introduced to Mona the Tibetan singing bowls and taught her some of the healing methods using these singing bowls.  By chance, she acquired through guidance and help from Rahul two sets of the antique Tibetan singing bowls (each set has 3 bowls).  It is not yet verified but is said that these bowls could be made as old as 200 years ago and hidden until uncovered by the singing bowl hunter.

After Mona started to offer Tibetan singing bowls meditation, she begins to realize the power of these singing bowls and the profound effect of the healing process on herself and her clients.  This has encouraged her to make more time to offer such meditation as often as possible.

As a massage therapist, Mona combines the energetic aspect (e.g. working with the major meridians an energy channels) with various practices, including Trigger Point Treatments, Myofascial Techniques, Manual Therapy and others. A session with her will take you to a state of deep relaxation.
